General Gardens and Grounds Early Years Centre  Junior School Shared Spaces Senior School

JuniorIn recent years the School has been involved in a series of construction projects designed to both renovate existing infrastructure and to create new learning spaces that are coherent with the needs of 21st century education. The Early Years Centre was completed in 2010 – and still draws attention to the light, airy and “transparent” environment created for young learners. In 2012 a second floor was added to the Eastern Wing of Junior. These specialist learning spaces (Science, IT, Art and Music) follow this theme of a more expansive and open education.

During the summer holidays of 2013-4, the lower floor of this same building has been completely remodelled – with astounding results. Students of F5 and F6 will enjoy state of the art facilities from March 2014. The bridge, providing direct access to Senior school facilities in two buildings and, symbolically, finally uniting the two “schools”, was formally inaugurated in May 2014.

The completion of the reconstruction of this wing signals a “pause” in the building cycle. Surely, there will be the need for the refurbishment of existing facilities, the need to respond to changing educational demands. Equally, however, it is time that construction took a seat a little further back in favour of consolidating and renewing the School’s educational programmes.

  • Gardens and Grounds

Over a period that spans more than 20 years, the landscape of The British Schools has gradually been transformed from its rather basic beginnings of tree plantation into the magnificent splendour of the gardens and grounds that the School community shares today. Such a transformation does not come about without an incredible amount of careful planning, preparation, hard work, and TLC (Tender Loving Care). All of which requires thoughtful guidance and expert advice, as well as the commitment of a dedicated team of individuals. This commitment does not only extend to the task itself but also to encouraging awareness about the importance of protecting our green spaces.

The results of this very British tradition of ‘gardening’ are simply spectacular. The vibrant mix of colours, textures, and scents, are a real treat for the senses. Whether for study, work, sports and recreation, family gatherings or visits from members of the wider community, these meticulously cared for School facilities are enjoyed by everyone.

As autumn gradually gives way to winter the evergreens maintain their hues and provide some welcome shelter from the prevailing winds.
