Retell it yourself - Winners

This writing contest, organised by the English and Spanish Departments, as well as the Library, convoked all of the Senior School students. The objective was to inspire the creative writing skills of our students in both languages.

On this occasion, the contest promoted the retelling of tales of classical literature. Thus, not only was the literary creation valued, but also the updating of the texts that the students read, either in class, or privately. The jury was composed of the English and Spanish Departments and the School Authorities.

The following students received prizes:

Form 1 Play - End of Year Celebration

  • Published in Junior

The families of Form 1 students came to school on Wednesday, 28th and Friday, 30th November to enjoy the end of year plays performed by each class. These plays were designed as part of the Unit of Inquiry 'How the world works'.

Students worked in collaboration with their teachers to create short plays based upon toys from the past and present and the different games that are played around the world. There was a focus on developing friendships and creativity through play.

The students' performances were excellent and thoroughly deserving of the round of applause they received.

Congratulations to our student Dikran Bakkalian who obtained First Honors Mention, in his level, in the Uruguayan Chemistry Olympics. This activity, which began in 2009, is organised by the Chemistry College (UdelaR), with the authorisation and backing of Consejo de Educación Secundaria and ANEP.

The competition comprises two stages: the first stage is at regional level and the second stage at national level. This last one took place on Saturday, 1st December.

Congratulations also go to teachers Noemí Corna and Alejandro Casariego, who guided Dikran in achieving this recognition.

Graduation 6YL

This week we said our congratulations and farewells to our graduating 6YL students in two ceremonies. His Excellency the British Ambassador, Mr. Ian Duddy, Mrs. Karen Schandy and the Board Members, Mr. Mark Rosevear and the teaching staff, as well as the parents and families, gathered together to celebrate, as Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Agustin Maggi, introduced the proceedings.

There were speeches from the Head Boys and Head Girls, who reflected on the students' time in the School, their friendship for each other and their understanding of the gratitude they have to the School and to their families. The students received their leaving certificates, and a group of them sang beautifully in the middle of the ceremony.

Mrs. Schandy finished proceedings, speaking of the history of the importance of the core values of the School, how people make a school, and how the graduating students now, as former members, take their place in our alumni community.

We wish every one of the leaving students all our best wishes for the future.

On Friday, 23rd November, Form 6 celebrated the closing activity with the children from CAIF ´La Esperanza´.

The gymnasium was set up with games for our young visitors and there was fun and laughter in the air. It was very moving to see the caring and tender manner our students displayed towards their little friends.

The games were followed by a shared snack and finally we received Santa’s visit, who brought presents donated by Form 6 students.

It was a very special morning for all, which marked the end of a very successful year.

Group 4 - Forensic Science

  • Published in Senior

The Group 4 Project was held in School on Monday, 19th November. This is an interdisciplinary activity in which all Diploma Programme Science students must participate by analysing a common topic or problem.

The chosen topic for this year was Forensic Science which allowed students to be engaged in their investigation and carry out a range of experiments on different aspects of this area of knowledge.

The outcome was a successful collaborative experience that ended in a “Science fair style” presentation that several groups from Junior and Senior attended and enjoyed.
