PROMISE AND PLEDGE OF THE URUGUAYAN FLAG

On Wednesday, 23rd September, Form 1 and 1YL students promised and pledged the Uruguayan flag. The 4 ceremonies were emotive and students sang the Uruguayan anthem and recited several lines remembering José Artigas in his death aniversary.

RECYCLING

During September, following our Awareness and Celebrations programme, the School will be working on Recycling.

This United Nations Issue will be addressed during Form Periods with our students and we would like to encourage our community to work on this issue at home with your families. To further boost how we approach this relevant topic, we would like to invite you all to bring electronic devices to be recycled. There are boxes placed on both Senior and Junior entrances for you to leave your E-Waste.

Once again the Old Boys & Old Girls Club has joined us in this endeavor.

The following video was created and produced by some of our Senior Global Perspective students in order to raise awareness on the importance of recycling and to learn what we are currently doing at School.

KNITTING FOR OTHERS

We would like to share the huge success of the #knitforothers Campaign with the community. Both students and staff were committed to the task, and the results were wonderful.

During the winter holidays we encouraged all to knit squares and bring them to school after recess was over.
Both 5YL and 6YL together with the support of staff from different areas of School got together to knit the squares together making blankets for the Fundación Canguro.

WELCOME 2020 - WHOLE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY

On Tuesday 3rd, the Gymnasium was once more the location for a brief Welcome Assembly for our Whole School.  Mr. Rosevear welcomed the students to another School year and commented on the many new improvements in the School buildings. He mentioned other relevant news and closed his speech by emphasising the importance of being kind to one another.

The School´s Head Boy (Felipe Crosa) and Head Girl (Paulina Seré) directed a few words to the audience, urging the students to study hard without forgetting to enjoy the years left at School.

VISIT TELETÓN

On Tuesday, November 12th, a delegation from Junior and Senior visited the “Centro Teletón” to hand the money collected on our annual “Red and White Day”.

We had a wonderful tour of the facilities and were able to experience from first hand all the support that this centre gives to the broader community. The money collected will go into a “Rehabilitation Virtual Reality Lab” to further assist the children that attend there on a daily basis. Our students got to visit the facilities and toured around the place, getting in contact with another reality which impacts a lot of Uruguayan kids.

It was a very open minded and caring visit which is embedded into our community commitment projects as a School.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank again our wonderful community that came together and helped with this wonderful fundraising.

TELETÓN 2019

Last Friday, October 25th, the School was a vision of white and red, in commemoration of its traditional “Teletón Day”, where several activities took place in both Junior and Senior for fundraising purposes: bake sale, non-uniform day. Students showed engagement and true commitment with the cause. In the coming weeks, Junior and Senior students will visit the Fundación Teletón and will delliver all the day´s proceeds.

25th & 50th ANNIVERSARY

On Saturday 26th October, two groups of former students returned to the School. The generations of 1969 and 1994, were celebrating their 50th and 25th years of their leaving. Not a single one of them looked any older than they day they left! Some of them are current parents or grandparents, but some others had not seen each other or the school for a long time. This is what made the day special.

The event was the result of ideas planted by both the School and the Old Boys & Old Girls Club, and it was a great success. There were around 100 people present, and after a quick tour of the School, with many shared memories of what has changed, or what has not, in some cases, everyone went to the auditorium to listen to short speeches. The Principal, Mark Roseavear, and the President of the Old Boys & Old Girls Club, Mr Santiago Rodriguez, welcomed our guests, some who had travelled from overseas for the occasion. Then the Head Boy and Head Girl of each generation, Mrs Karen Schandy and Mr Rodolfo Medeiros from 1969 and Mrs Margarita Strauch and Mr Duncan Espiga from 1994 addressed their classmates before the Chair of the Board of Governors, Mr Martin Wells, closed proceedings.

It was great to see all of our former students again. It would be nice to think this will become an annual event. My thanks to everyone who helped in organising it.

A fuller report will appear in the December edition of INSIGHT magazine.
